Amplification of Fluctuations (2021)

EN: Fragility and coherence, construction and deconstruction, boundaries and porosity – these apparent antagonisms are explored in Monika Dorniak’s Amplification of Fluctuations (2021), created in collaboration with five dancers. In this choreographed collective work, the interdisciplinary artist continues her search for forms of solidarity within a pluralised society that is simultaneously hyper-connected and increasingly divided.
Throughout the performance, the dancers intuitively deconstruct and reconstruct the foundations of human community, revealing the anatomy of the ‘singular’ self – a body shaped by a constellation of human and non-human agencies. The transformable costume and stage design, essential components in Dorniak’s artistic practice, provide a moveable framework for the choreography. In Amplification of Fluctuations, these mobile objects symbolise the simultaneous presence of boundaries and permeability in the ongoing formation of the self.

DE: Zerbrechlichkeit und Kohärenz, Konstruktion und Dekonstruktion, Grenzziehung und Porosität – diese scheinbaren Gegensätze werden in Monika Gabriela Dorniaks Amplification of Fluctuations (2021) gemeinsam mit fünf Tänzer*innen untersucht. In dieser choreografierten Kollektivarbeit setzt die interdisziplinäre Künstlerin ihre Suche nach Solidarität in einer pluralisierten Gesellschaft fort, die zugleich hypervernetzt und zunehmend fragmentiert ist.
Im Verlauf der Performance de-/konstruieren die Tänzerinnen intuitiv die Grundlagen menschlicher Gemeinschaft und offenbaren die Anatomie des „singulären“ Selbst – eines pluralen Körpers, der durch ein Zusammenspiel menschlicher und nicht-menschlicher Akteur*innen geformt wird. Das wandelbare Kostüm- und Bühnenbild, das in Dorniaks Praxis eine zentrale Rolle einnimmt, bildet dabei einen beweglichen Rahmen für die Choreografie. In Amplification of Fluctuations stehen diese mobilen Objekte für das gleichzeitige Vorhandensein von Grenzen und Durchlässigkeit in der fortwährenden Formung des Selbst.
