A Collection Of Entangled Limbs

The experimental video 'Entangled Limbs' analyses the relationship between human beings and other non-/human organisms. In the era of the Anthropocene our environment has drastically changed, which leads to an increase of mental health issues – a phenomenon that scientists call 'Solastalgia'. In the video the sense of tactility is central: in various scenes a hand is touching objects, another human and plants. There is no hierarchy between these organisms, and instead the artist wants to introduce a modern folklore, in which human being rebuilds its lost connection to its environment. In this work, the artist Monika Dorniak combines her studies in psychology and performance, as well as her continues research on the agency of nature.
«Entangled Limbs» est un travail d’art-vidéo expérimental. Il analyse la relation entre des êtres humains et d'autres organismes non-humains. À l'ère de l'Anthropocène, notre environnement s’est radicalement transformé et a conduit à une importante augmentation des souffrances psychiques – un phénomène que l’on appelle aujourd’hui de « Solastalgie ». Dans cette vidéo, la perception de la tactilité est centrale : dans diverses scènes, on voit une main toucher des objets, des humains et des plantes. Sans une hiérarchie entre ces organismes, l'artiste propose au lieu d’introduire un «folklore moderne», dans lequel l'être humain rétablit la connexion perdue avec son milieu. Pour réaliser ce travail, Monika Dorniak s’est appuyée sur ses études de psychologie et de performance, ainsi que sur ses recherches sur agentivité de la nature.
